custom wedding: Rebecca + Chris (sneak peek)

So as promised, here is just little sneak peek into some photos of Rebecca and Chris' wedding day (photos are taken by Christy Pelland of c. pelland photography).






I can't wait to share with you a few more details about Rebecca's necklace and earrings, however, you will have to wait a few more weeks for that. As soon as I get all the images together... I will be sure to post.

Another interesting fact that Rebecca shared with me about her family is that they also had Cherokee Indian heritage and that the feather was another important family symbol. Even though that aspect of her family's heritage is mostly unknown, Chris and Rebecca wanted to honor this part in their wedding by also including a Native American Wedding vase made for the ceremony.


In designing Rebecca's wedding necklace, I thought it would be an interesting idea to include both her Cherokee Indian heritage as well as her families' Irish background. I wanted these two aspects to be the focal components in the necklace. So I came up with a design that would basically allow Rebecca to have two necklaces in one. For the actual wedding ceremony, she could wear the sterling silver domed Claddagh design in the front.


And for the reception, she could switch the necklace around and have the Cherokee feather be the focal point. There are a few more interesting details about the necklace that I would like to share with you, but you will have to wait a bit to find out more about Rebecca's necklace. So stay tuned in the weeks to come!

custom wedding: Rebecca + Chris (the process)

Here is a blogpost that I have been meaning to post since last week. I am really excited to share with you the custom wedding pieces that I made for Rebecca and Chris' wedding. I met Rebecca through Christy Pelland when we had gotten together to speak about my new website; these two wonderful ladies are graciously collaborating together to design it. Thanks ladies!

When I met up with Rebecca to talk to her about her custom wedding pieces, I had brought along some questions I wanted to know about her family, Chris, and herself.

Option #1:

I had also asked Rebecca what are some ideas that she thought were important to incorporate into the custom pieces as well as if she had any found objects that she wanted to include in any of the pieces.

With all of this information in hand, I started to do some more research before I started to sketch together all these ideas into her custom wedding pieces. For the necklace, I came up with three main options that all had slight variations among the symbols used throughout the piece.

Option #2:

In our meeting, Rebecca had mentioned to me that the Claddagh (a traditional Irish) design that features two hands clasping a heart, which is usually surmounted by a crown is something that she wanted to include in the necklace because of her families' Irish background. The elements that are incorporated within the symbol are often said to correspond to the qualities of love (the heart), friendship (the hands), and loyalty (the crown).
